New Chick-Lit Novel Details Struggles, Triumphs of Working Mom

(ContentDesk) November 17, 2004 -- Stephanie Bavaro's new novel, Chalking it Up, released by Metropolis Ink/End Table Books, is a blend of The Devil Wears Prada and the movie Office Space.
"While the book is not a true story, it does exaggerate certain episodes I experienced during my layoff," Bavaro says.
"I thought for this particular period in our history, our current social and economic climate, a lot of people could relate to this story."The story is a slice of life detailing the struggles (and ultimately, the triumphs) of the sassy Heather Hall, who is trapped in a corporate job she hates selling software training courses.
When layoffs arrive, she is suddenly at home in her mommy role with her three daughters, trying to keep herself sane and finding her way in the working world. After starting and quitting several jobs, (including a job at an ad agency that doesn't pay her and a job at a design firm where nobody speaks) Heather finally realizes what she is meant to do all along and realizes happiness is something one must create for themselves. The tale is upbeat, funny and cynical, yet real sentiment shows through. It is a comment on the issues and climate of today that many people can relate to.

It reflects the struggle of many working parents of today, and the feeling that many mothers in particular feel they have lost themselves or who they used to be, and that dreams can be rekindled. This is Stephanie Bavaro's first novel, but she has done some freelance writing, written short stories, and won Honorable Mention for the Lorain Hemingway International Short Story competition.
She lives in Columbus, Ohio.Advance copies are immediately available at www.bn.com, amazon.com, metropolisink.com, or the author's website, www.stephbavaro.com.
It can also be ordered at any bookstore. For information please contact Sandy Gulledge or Kurt Florman at www.metropolisink.com..

Reviving Old Computer Games

Remember the good old days of gaming, when there were only 5 pixels in the protagonist and your imagination could turn them into a heroic figure of Schwarzenegger proportions? When the enemies and the heroes were distinguished by colour and you only needed one button on the joystick? Well times have changed and technology has moved on. Pulling my old Commodore 64 or Atari out of the back of the cupboard and setting them up often takes more time than the nostalgic pang lasts. I've also noticed that some of my old disks are starting to age and become corrupted. Enter the Internet. The wonderfully technologically gifted and giving Internet populace is out in force in their attempts to preserve the older side of gaming. Remakes and Emulators for almost any old machine can be found around the Internet.

Emulators act as a layer between old software and new hardware allowing modern PCs to run programs that such hardware was never meant to see. Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Master System,...

Commercial Photo Printing

With the increasing use of digital cameras in homes across the U.S., people widely experiment to get printouts of their photos. The most common option is to use a desk printer to address their printing needs. The above practice may prove economical for occasional use, but if you want to get more printouts from your desk printer it becomes an expensive affair. A lot of money will go toward producing low-quality photographs, considering the cost of ink cartridges and photo paper.

Commercial photo printing machines give you bright, high-quality pictures which are otherwise not possible to get at home. It is always advised to take your precious photographs to a professional printer who would do justice to the memories captured by your camera.

The printers manufactured for home use are not geared to produce quality pictures like their commercial counterparts. Even though some may have color printing facilities, they can never match up to the finish and elegance the commercial...
